What walking, cycling and public transport facilities do we need locally?
Sustaining Choices:
Kilmadock Action Plan for walking, cycling and public transport
As part of creating a new Community Plan, the community took part in PAS‘ Sustaining Choices project to develop an action plan to improve local facilities for walking, cycling and public transport. Engagement activities were undertaken in the summer and autumn of 2022. The Action Plan was published in March 2023. On this page you’ll find a summary of the project, and links to read the Action Plan in full.

What needs to be improved?
The Place Standard was used to determine what people thought of existing facilities walking, cycling and public transport. The results from events and surveys shows that in all three areas there is room for improvement, especially with public transport.
What improvements did the community suggest?
As well as finding out what people thought of current facilities, they were asked for new ideas that would improve walking, cycling and public transport. Broadly these fell into one of five themes:
- Community Connections: making it easier for people to walk, wheel and cycle locally; whether for everyday journeys or leisure.
- District Connections: creating paths for safe walking, wheeling or cycling that allow people to reach neighbouring places by active travel.
- Buses: making the bus a reliable alternative to driving, for locals and visitors alike.
- Safety: improving the feeling of safety for people walking, wheeling and cycling.
- Shared Transport: developing the local case for alternative transport models that are successful elsewhere.
From the full list of thirty-one actions in the plan, the eight most consistently mentioned are highlighted as those with the highest priority.
- Resolve safe crossing over River Teith with a new bridge for walking, wheeling and cycling.
- Join up the local paths to create a network of connected routes.
- Improve frequency of current 59 service, particularly in evenings and weekends.
- Create a bus connection to Dunblane.
- Improve maintenance of some paths and pavements; keeping in good condition and (dependent on route) clearing of vegetation or seasonal gritting.
- Complete connection of National Cycle Network route between Doune and Callander.
- Enforcement of traffic laws including speed limits and pavement parking.
- Explore potential of car-share initiatives.

Delivery of the Action Plan
The community, governments and national agencies all have a role to play in delivering on the Action Plan, and increasing the number of journeys that can be made locally by walking, cycling and public transport.
In the first instance, the community's Development Officer (Neil Fergusson) is working to get things going. If you can help in some way, the details to contact Neil can be found here.
