Kilbryde Castle
Kilbryde Castle lies between Doune and Dunblane, some distance north of the A820. It is situated on the side of a gorge, through which the river Ardoch flows, encircling the castle on three sides.
There has been a building on the site since about 1460 and this has been home to the Campbell family since 1659. The building was originally a traditional Scottish Tower House. It was rebuilt in the 1870’s by the present owner’s great, great grandfather in the style of the period.
The beautiful gardens, which cover around twelve acres, were created from the 1970’s onwards by Sir Colin and Lady Campbell. Now the castle and gardens are used by Sir James Campbell and his wife Carola as a venue for events such as weddings, private parties and accommodation. The gardens are open to the public on certain days as part of Scotland’s Gardens Scheme open days, and may be “open by arrangement” at other times.
