Calling all community groups and businesses. Please get in touch on 07810 628 512 or dounegala@hotmail.com if you would like to have a stall at Doune Gala on 24th June 2023. It’s a great way to raise funds for your group, or raise your business profile.

It’s nearly time for the June Gala – so get ready for fun during Gala Week and on the Gala Weekend! This year our theme is 100 Years of Disney

A letter will come to all Doune Residents with details of the competitions and events we plan, and we’ll post more information here on the Village Website and on the Village Facebook pages.

Dates for your diary:

Fund Raisers before the Gala:

There will be a Gin tasting on Friday 28th April, 7.00pm for 7.30pm. and an Afternoon Tea on Thursday 18th May, 2.00pm – 4.30pm, both in the Bowling Club. For tickets contact Alison in library.

Theme

The Theme for the Gala this year is “100 years of Disney” – it is a century since Walt Disney moved to Hollywood and started the Disney Studios, although Mickey Mouse didn’t make his first appearance until a few years later. Among Disney Studio’s first works was a version of Alice in Wonderland. Since that start the Disney Studios have delighted us with many memorable animations, live action films and characters to treasure.

During Gala Week

From 18th June to 25th June, with new bunting, floral décor, and many fun activities, you’ll be able to take part in all the traditional favourite Gala competitions including Janette’s miniature gardens, Janette’s Garden Art, Jimmuck’s Shield for decorated windows, as well a 5-a-side football competition, displays around the village and of course the annual duck race.

We are pleased that we will return to the traditional crowning a Gala Queen and Laird, chosen from the school children.

Musical Evening Friday 23rd June

On Friday 23rd June there will be a Musical Evening in the tent at the Moray Park, with Doune Ukelele Group (DUGS) and The Average White Van Band playing live!  Tickets from the committee.  Both of these bands are made up from musicians from the surrounding areas.  And both groups are talented – well worth seeing!  Playing and singing pieces you will be soon joining in with.

Gala Saturday 24th June

will start with a Fancy Dress Parade with the theme is “100 Years of Disney”, and we look forward to a display of bright and imaginative costumes!  Judging at 12.30pm, Graham Street. The Gala Queen and Laird with their court will then lead the fancy dress and pipe band procession to Moray Park, followed by the gala opening, and then races, children’s fun area, stalls, food and drink, and entertainments. Gala events in the Moray Park include a children’s area, entertainment, races, food and stalls.

Gala Sunday 25th June

Finally, on Gala Sunday there will be the annual Duck Race, at 12pm, along the River Teith to The Pier.

We look forward to your decorations, competition entries, football skills, and to seeing you at the Gala Events!
