Doune Gala

The Gala Committee appeals for new members which will allow there to be a continuation of the traditional event.  At this time, a scaled down presence is being offered, with hopefully, a full celebration returning next year.  This is completely dependent on support from the village, and new committee members.

For everyone in Doune;

We have Janette’s Garden Competition.  Entrants are invited to create a Miniature Garden Competition, in a tray, box, planter etc.  The garden should be placed in an outside area for judging.  All entrants should be registered via Messenger at the Doune Gala page, or 07810 628 512, by Thursday 16th June.  This competition is open to all ages, and there are lots of prizes over the categories, along with the “Janette’s Garden Plaque” in memory of Janette Clark.

The annual Duck Race will take place on Sunday 19th June, at 12pm, along the River Teith, to The Pier.  Ducks are currently on sale from Simply Sarah’s and Doune Library, priced £1.

Cash prizes for 1st – 10th place.

Everyone is welcome to come along to cheer the ducks as they race, and watch the Fisher folk and Canoeists retrieve them from the river.  12pm at The Pier, where the Ardoch meets the Teith!

Harvey’s Gala Fun Run takes place in the Moray Park on Sunday 19 June.  Register your place from 9.30am, and both 6k (12 & over) and 2.5k runs commence at 10.30am. £2 adults, £1 juniors.

 For residents and businesses on Main Street;

 We invite you to decorate a window, overlooking Main Street.

The theme is “A Day in the Garden”.

The “Jimmuck Shield”, in memory of Jimmuck, and his shop at The Cross, will be presented to the winner, along with prizes for 1st, 2nd & 3rd places.

Windows and Gardens will be judged on the morning of Friday 17th June

Following the unsuccessful appeal for Gala Volunteers, there will be fewer than usual events hosted throughout the week 12-19 June.

Janette’s Garden Competition

This invites entrants to create and display a Miniature Garden.  This can be in a seed tray, tea tray, flower tub, whisky barrel, whatever, and then displayed within your garden.  Judges will visit the area to view the entries.  We ask that you register your entry by calling 07810 628 512 or DM (message) Doune Gala, by Thursday 16 June, 8pm, so we know where to look.
This competition is open to all ages, and there will be prizes for children and adults, including the Janette’s Garden Silver Plate, in memory of Janette Clark, for first prize.

Main Street Decorated Windows

Shops and residents of Main Street are invited to decorate their windows following the theme of “A Day in the Garden”.  First Prize, The Jimmucks Sheild, in memory of Jimmuck will be awarded, along with prizes for 2nd and 3rd place.  No need to register for this event.
The Gardens and the Window competitions will be judged on Friday 17 June, before 12pm.
