This September, a PhD researcher from the James Hutton Institute is inviting people in Doune and Deanston to take part in small discussion groups exploring how post-pandemic working from home is shaping the area.

The research is part of a national study focused on rural areas, looking at how changes in working patterns since the pandemic are influencing where people live, how they travel, and how they engage with local life. Doune and Deanston has been chosen as a key case study area, as census data shows it has one of the highest proportions of remote workers in Scotland.

The discussion groups are open to anyone who lives or works locally – whether you work from home yourself or simply have views on how the area is changing. Conversations might cover topics like housing demand, use of local services, volunteering, or broader shifts in community life.

You can join at any of the following times:

  • 1st September, 7:30 PM – Deanston Community Centre
  • 11th September, 10:30 AM – Doune Rural Hall
  • 19th September, 7:30 PM – Doune Rural Hall

Sessions will last between 60 and 90 minutes. Drinks and snacks will be provided, and everyone who takes part will receive a £10 voucher for a local business as a thank you.
